Dedicated to my compatriots murdered in Egypt

As the below card show it, I have visited the Tutankhamen exhibition "The Golden Beyond" on August 22, 2004. As already mentioned on the previous pages, this was an exhibition of the Antikenmuseum Basel, in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Cairo, featuring masterpieces from the Egyptian National Museum of Cairo.

Because the most of the visitors of this site won't have the privilege to visit this interesting exhibition,  I display below some selected exhibits.

Pectoral of Tutanchamun. Gold, silver, calcite & glass, quartz, Found in the tomb of the pharaoh.

Statuette of Tutanchamun. Gilded wood. Found in the tomb of the pharaoh. Coffin of Tuya. Gilded wood, inlaid with red and blue glass, calcite and obsidian. From the tomb of Yuya and Tuya, the parents-in-law of the pharaoh Memphis III.

Ointment receptacle of Tutankhamun. Alabaster. From the tomb of the pharaoh. Jewel box of Tuya. Wood inlaid with gold foil, ivory, ebony and blue faience.  From the tomb of Yuya and Tuya.

The exhibition was interesting and very good organized. It was a real pleasure to visit it, my only objections being  that the renown golden mask of Tutankhamun wasn't presented (apparently for religious reasons it cannot leave the Egypt anymore) and that the entry price of CHF 28.00 was a bit too high, especially when considering that the taking of pictures was prohibited.
